Halupki

Method

  1. Core the cabbage and lower it into simmering water. Peel away the leaves as they soften; trim the thick center ribs.
  2. Combine the meats, rice, onion, egg, salt, and pepper without overmixing.
  3. Place filling near the base of each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll snugly.
  4. Nestle the rolls seam-side down in a covered baking dish with the tomato sauce. Bake at 350°F until tender, about 90 minutes.
