Cornflake Christmas Wreath

Also known as: Marshmallow cornflake wreath

A no-bake Christmas centerpiece: corn flakes bound in green-tinted marshmallow, worked into a ring by hand, and dotted with teaberry candies where a wreath wants berries.

Time 30 minutes, plus chilling
Yield One large wreath, about 10 servings

Ingredients

Method

  1. Set a large saucepan over low heat and melt the butter, then stir in the marshmallows and keep stirring until nothing lumpy is left.
  2. Stir in green food coloring until the shade is as deep as you want it, then take the pan off the heat.
  3. Fold in the corn flakes a few cups at a time, stirring until every flake is coated.
  4. Butter your hands well, turn the mixture out onto a serving tray at least 12 inches across, and work quickly into a ring — it stiffens as it cools.
  5. Scatter the teaberry candies over the top while the surface is still tacky — they are the wreath's berries, and the whole point of this version.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm. Add a ribbon bow before it goes to the table.

The ingredients and the procedure are the ones the Republican & Herald printed on its Christmas Eve kitchen page in 2003, beside an Ashland family's holiday table; the wording of the method here is ours.
