The Pennsylvania Anthracite Miners Memorial in Shenandoah’s Girard Park is a three-panel bronze bas-relief by the sculptor Zenos Frudakis — “Life Underground,” “The Passageway,” and “Life Above Ground” — honoring the anthracite coal miners of the Upper Schuylkill region.
Dedicated on September 15, 1996 before a crowd of about 200, it is surrounded by a memorial-brick walkway inscribed with miners’ names — a monument to the industry that built Shenandoah and much of the county around it.
