In Admiral Boone Park, Saint Clair, a marker commemorates Vice Admiral Joel Thompson Boone (1889–1974), a St. Clair native. A Navy Medical Corps officer, Boone received the Medal of Honor for treating wounded Marines under fire at Vierzy, France, in 1918.
He went on to serve as physician to Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover and rose to vice admiral. The marker stands in his namesake park on South 3rd Street; its dedication date is not separately documented.
