Approximate — the column, the Veterans Memorial Garden, and the Women's Memorial Garden stand together behind Coaldale Borough Hall (borough parcel 40-02-0523) and share one civic-complex pin; the three are not individually resolved.
The Coaldale Veterans Memorial Garden is a fenced, lighted memorial garden behind Borough Hall, built up around the borough’s 1933 memorial column beginning about 2009. Its centerpiece is a World War II Memorial Wall of granite columns bearing 1,355 names, of whom 54 were killed in action.
Designed by William M. Gaddes, the garden also holds a bronze “Battlefield Cross” by the sculptor Andrew Chernak, columns commemorating the Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf and Afghanistan eras, and a Navy submarine memorial. Together with the adjacent Women’s Memorial Garden, it forms a substantial veterans complex for a borough of Coaldale’s size.
